For measurement of refractive index of liquids & gases .The interference fringes are magnified in the instrument to over 100 times by means of a cylindrical lens of the eye -piece which produced are sharp ar the normal distance of distinct vision.
It consists of following items:
a) Heavy metal platform ( or you can say small metal table as shown in the fig.)
b) Collimator with circular slit is fixed at one end
c) Telescope with cylindrical lens instead of Ramsden eyepiece is fitted on other side of the table.
d) One metal box which is fitted in the front of the telescope consist of razor Glass plate inclined at an angle of 45 deg. This box also contains compensa tion plates. The whole system is connected to micrometer screw gauge to record the readings.
e) Plane parallel optical glass cells for liquids.
f) Pair of gas cells with plane parallel windows for the measurement of refractive index of gases.
g) Vacuum pump single stage having displacement 32 liters per minute with manometer
